JOAO ALMEIDA PARTNER, PROJECT MANAGER AND MEMBER OF THE MANAGEMENT BOARD
Joao - from Lisbon in Portugal - wrote his Master's thesis on the topic of food waste in Switzerland and has since played a key role in developing this agenda. His experiences at the Portuguese Ministry of Economy (Lisbon) and at Syngenta Crop Protection (Basel) sparked an interest in the complex challenges facing a sustainable food system, and led him to set up Foodways alongside Markus and Jürg in 2012. Joao is a creative thinker and talented facilitator and community builder, who excels in creating strong and mutually beneficial partnerships. When Joao goes home at night, he enjoys spending time with his partner and two young children.
Markus - from central Switzerland - has a BA in International Business and an interdisciplinary Master's degree in Sustainable Development from the University of Basel. Both during and following his studies he gained international experience in a number of roles in NGOs and companies across Europe, New Zealand and central Asia. This broad background is undoubtedly a benefit when now seeking to address a diverse range of challenges and opportunities in the food sector, after setting up Foodways in 2012. Markus is passionate about developing projects and businesses and is a reliable project manager, with a solid grasp of budgets and finance. In his free time, Markus likes baking sour dour bread and trying out new sausage recipes.
ANDREA GROSSENBACHER PROJECT MANAGER - FOOD SERVICE
Andrea - from Bern - trained at the hotel management school in Lucerne and after gaining more than 10 years’ experience in the hotel and gastronomy sector she went on to complete a Masters in Corporate and Business Development. This newly acquired knowledge, coupled with her broad practical experience meant thats she was very well suited to the role of Project Manager - Food Service here at Foodways. Andrea enjoys working with others, dealing with complex challenges and projects and values the diverse nature of her work. In her free time, she is a passionate patio gardener and cook. She enjoys jogging, water and snow sports and spending time with friends and family.
Laura - from Birmingham in the United Kingdom - has 6 years' experience as a policy adviser, leading the implementation of various national and international projects, with a particular focus on cross-sector collaboration, agenda-setting and communication. After moving to Switzerland in 2014 she converted her personal passion for reducing food waste into her new professional goal. Convinced of the power of partnerships, Laura enjoys bringing people together to find new solutions to shared challenges. In her free time, you’ll find Laura perfecting a new recipe or enjoying said recipe in the form of a picnic at the top of a mountain or by the lake in Lausanne.
Moritz - from Bern - has a Masters in Sustainable Development. While working as a student he gathered a broad range of experience in a variety of sectors. After completing his studies and working in the energy sector for 4 years, he is now excited to be taking a new professional challenge. Moritz is highly motivated by the potential to contribute to the reduction of food waste and the creation of sustainable value in the food sector in his new role as Project Catalyst. Nutrition also plays a key role in his personal life: he’s always looking to perfect his super-shake recipes to fuel his martial arts and functional fitness training.
Maria – born and raised in east Switzerland and now living in Madiswil – completed a commercial education. She enjoys working with others and brings a wide range of experience in organisation, team coordination, administration and hospitality to the team. Her friendly presence and service orientated approach ensures that all Ateliers customers get a great image of Foodways during their time in our offices. Outside of work, Maria enjoys spending time in the countryside with her family. She is also a passionate amateur cook.
Jürg - from Schwarzenburg - began his career with a qualification in mechanical engineering at HTL Burgdorf. He subsequently went on to complete training to become a Marketing Manager at the SAWI Biel, complemented by various work-based courses in Corporate Management, Marketing, Management, Innovation, Product development. As a coach and mentor with insatiable curiosity and multiple years of management experience he brings valuable expertise to support Foodways in its ongoing development. Passionate about creative cooking, he enjoys making the most of seasonal and regional food products.
